Garbutt set for KR move

Mitch Garbutt is set to complete a move across Yorkshire to join Hull KR from Leeds, reports are suggesting.

League Express revealed on Monday that the Australian front rower was attracting interest from Tim Sheens’ Robins and a transfer is believed to be completed with an announcement due in the coming days.

Garbutt, 29, has made in excess of seventy appearances with the West Yorkshire giants since joining midway through the 2015 season. That year he helped the club complete the treble and, while he also played a key role as Leeds won the Super League Grand Final in 2017, those years were sandwiched with a year in The Qualifiers in 2016 – something which was repeated in 2018.

Despite their struggles this season, Garbutt is something of a fan favourite and his departure will split opinion among the Rhinos’ faithful. However, following Brian McDermott’s mid-season departure, director of rugby Kevin Sinfield set out on wholesale changes and improvements within the club. Now, it would appear that he, along with the club’s new head coach Dave Furner, believe that Garbutt is a dispensable member of the squad as they aim to revive the club’s fortunes.

A huge rugby league fan, Joe is from York and has followed both the Knights and Leeds Rhinos. The down to earth nature of the sport and it's players diverted his attention away from football and, now, is pursuing a writing career in the greatest sport in the world.

Get 'em Onside is that vessel. Since starting in October 2017, the site has accrued in excess of 400,000 views, nearing a million impressions and almost a thousand followers on the facebook, twitter and instagram platforms. Not bad for something that was only started to kill a bit of time!
