Halifax hooker Ben Kaye has extended his stay with the club after penning a new one-year deal.
29-year-old Kaye has been with the West Yorkshiremen since 2014 and has over a century of appearances for the Betfred Championship club. During that time, the former Leeds Rhinos youngster has established himself as a cornerstone of the Halifax team and, under the stewardship of Richard Marshall, helped the club reach The Qualifiers in 2018. He made his 250th career appearance in Fax’s clash against the Rhinos in the Super 8s.
After re-signing with the club, Kaye explained how much he has enjoyed his time with the club. “2018 was a brilliant year, it’s been one of my favourites during my time here,” he said. Indeed, with The Qualifiers having been discontinued, Kaye believes that the structural change could benefit the team going forward. “Moving back to the old play-off system I think might suit us going forward. It’ll be an interesting year,” he explained.
His head coach Marshall told the media how pleased he was that his experienced hooker put pen to paper. “Ben is such a quality bloke to have around the place. When we win, he signs the song and he’s a brilliant character. He’s a quality player and a great professional,” he professed. “He helps to coach some of our juniors as well, he’ll bring young Curtis Davies and Brandon Moore on as well. I’m really pleased that he’s re-signed for us because he’s the type of bloke that we need in this club.”
