Leeds Rhinos’ half back Richie Myler has been called up to the England squad for the upcoming internationals after Luke Gale withdrew through injury.
One bright spot in an otherwise highly disappointing campaign for the Rhinos, 28-year-old Myler recorded twenty-three assists – beaten only by three players – in Super League and was often the only recognised half-back in Leeds’ team. He won the club’s player of the year award and has made six previous appearances for England plus two appearances against the now-defunct Exiles team. He earned all of his international caps during his time with Salford and Warrington and hasn’t appeared since 2012.
Alongside Myler’s addition, fellow Rhinos players Liam Sutcliffe and Ash Handley have been called into the squad for this week’s match against France at the Leigh Sports Village as well as Jamie Shaul, Oliver Holmes, Robbie Mulhern and Matt Whitley. The five were added to the squad due to the absence of those involved in the Grand Final.
