North Queensland Cowboys full-back Lachlan Coote will join St Helens next season, the club have announced today.

Days after the confirmation that Ben Barba will be leaving Super League for the 2015 NRL Grand Final winners, Saints revealed this morning that Coote, the three time Scotland international, will be coming the other way and is likely to step into the void left by the departing Barba.

28-year-old Coote has penned a three year deal and comes with a wealth of experience having made in excess of 150 appearances in the NRL since starting his career with Penrith in 2008. He made 83 appearances for the Panthers prior to moving to North Queensland in 2014, starting at full-back for the Cowboys in their Grand Final triumph the following year.

Of his new recruit, Saints coach Justin Holbrook said “I’m really excited to have such a quality player coming to our club. He is an exciting player with a good kicking game and vision.” Chairman Eamon McManus added “He’s performed for years at the highest level and will also provide experience and leadership within an already strong Saints squad next season and beyond.”

A huge rugby league fan, Joe is from York and has followed both the Knights and Leeds Rhinos. The down to earth nature of the sport and it's players diverted his attention away from football and, now, is pursuing a writing career in the greatest sport in the world.

Get 'em Onside is that vessel. Since starting in October 2017, the site has accrued in excess of 400,000 views, nearing a million impressions and almost a thousand followers on the facebook, twitter and instagram platforms. Not bad for something that was only started to kill a bit of time!
