Wigan Warriors full-back Zak Hardaker has been charged with drink driving.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening and the 26-year-old was also driving without insurance or an MOT, West Yorkshire Police confirmed. The incident comes merely weeks after the 2015 Man of Steel winner was able to commence training with his new Wigan team mates after being exiled from the game due to a ban following a failed drugs test from his time at Castleford, a ban which ruled him out of the entire 2018 season.
He will appear in court on Thursday 11th October, just two days prior to the Grand Final. While he wouldn’t have been eligible to play in the Old Trafford showpiece – he can’t play rugby league again until November 18th – it is a year on from when Hardaker was ruled out of the Tigers’ maiden Grand Final appearance in 2017, a decision which was made public days before the event.
It is the latest in a line of misdemeanours which have hit Hardaker’s career and both the player and Wigan Warriors will hope that he will be able to put this behind him and that he will be able to recommence his career in 2019.
