Following an impressive first half of the season which has seen him become the team’s top try scorer of the season, Leeds Rhinos’ back Ash Handley has signed a new three year deal. His sterling form has no doubt played a huge part in the new deal which replaces his previous one which was set to expire at the end of the 2018 campaign.
This season has seen him score ten tries in fifteen appearances for reigning Super League champions and, despite starting out as a winger, he now seems to have made the left centre position his own after his impressive campaign. Indeed, it was only because of Liam Sutcliffe’s injury that he got his chance this year but he has certainly taken it.
Having now made 69 appearances for his hometown team, the former Oulton Raiders junior is understandably ecstatic at having signed a new deal. “I knew this year was going to be a big one for me with my contract up and I wasn’t a regular in the team. I knew I had to work hard and push for a place in the side and fortunately I have got a chance at centre and had a good run of games. I am delighted to sign a new three year deal at Leeds and I am excited to see where that takes me,” he expressed.
Having scored in the Rhinos’ last two matches, the 22-year-old will be keen to add to that tally on Friday night as Leeds play host to Huddersfield Giants – the team Handley scored a late try against to help secure a draw earlier this season.
