The return of the England Knights was confirmed in March and it has now been confirmed that the team will be playing two matches in Papua New Guinea this winter.
Contests against the Kumuls in Lae on 27th October and Port Moresby a week later will be preceded by a period of time training at Brisbane Broncos’ state of the art facilities before travelling to the island which hosted all three of Papua New Guinea’s group matches in last year’s RLWC. A nation where rugby league is the national sport, it will certainly be a test for England’s ‘reserve’ squad; when Get ’em Onside recently spoke to former international Paul Sculthorpe, he shared that the Knights squad was picked with a top age of around 23 with a view to them featuring heavily in the 2021 RLWC. The fervent atmosphere at Port Moresby’s stadium – where the Knights, led by coach Paul Anderson – will play their second match was one of the lingering memories of the 2017 tournament and will surely be an incredible experience for the team.
