Rhinos recall centre

Kallum Watkins joined Leeds’ growing injury list with what looked like a serious knee injury on Saturday night in the second half of their 38-10 defeat to Castleford Tigers and, in turn, the club have recalled on of their players currently out on loan.

Jimmy Keinhorst, believed to have already penned a deal with Hull KR starting next season, is the man in question and he himself crossed for an impressive team try in Widnes Vikings 38-18 defeat to St Helens on Saturday. The 27 year old was sent out on loan to get him regular game time and, while it may not be under the circumstances the Rhinos would wish, he may now be set for an extended run in the side due to captain Watkins’ injury. If the England international is to be missing for a lengthy period, it would leave the 2017 Super League champions without their two first choice centres with Liam Sutcliffe having been absent for the majority of the season so far.

Leeds’ head coach Brian McDermott admitted that Watkins “felt a pop and heard a pop” which, generally, would indicate a serious problem. Denis Betts praised Keinhorst’s efforts in a Widnes jersey and the German is set to return to his parent club’s side for their trip to Catalans this coming weekend.
