Having yet to completely replace Zak Hardaker following his sacking from the club earlier this season, reports emerging late on Sunday night have linked the 2017 Super League League Leaders’ Shield with a key player currently with one of their West Yorkshire rivals.
Huddersfield Giants’ 23 year old former NRL full back Jake Mamo is the man in question and it is believed that Daryl Powell feels he – and his coaching team – can coach the star to be one of the best full backs in the competition. The Australian is out of contract at the end of the season and, having seen the Giants struggle since he joined them in 2017, is likely to depart the club in time for 2019.
Castleford have used all three of Ben Roberts, Jake Trueman and Michael Shenton there this season and it is believed that Powell understandably wants a specialist full back in place for 2019. That, however, didn’t stop the Tigers overcoming a poor Leeds side 38-10 to close day one of Magic Weekend with an entertaining and professional performance.
