Preview: Hull KR v Hull FC (Fri)

Good Friday sees the first Super League Hull derby since 2016 and the Airlie Birds will pay the Robins a visit with their captain Danny Houghton in tow.

Following injury in the club’s Australian away day in their second game of the season, he is set to make his return as FC aim to build on their strong win over Catalans last weekend. They have won the last five competitive Hull derbies but have yet to win away from home this season. However, what was a lengthy injury list a couple of weeks ago is now down to just two names with Sika Manu and Dean Hadley the current occupiers of the treatment room. Mickey Paea – a former KR player – is in the squad but has to be cleared by a specialist in order to play and he will hope to join Albert Kelly in beating their previous employers.

Hull KR are coming off a brutal defeat to St Helens last week which saw the club hit by injuries. Andrew Heffernan, Jordan Walne and Robbie Mulhern are all absent after picking up knocks while George Lawler suffered a horrific injury, breaking his leg and dislocating his ankle. However, Shaun Lunt has been named in the nineteen man squad for the first time since injuring his knee at home. He requires a late fitness test but, as he revealed in an interview with Get ’em Onsidethe club wouldn’t rush his return. Danny McGuire, who was initially ruled out following last weekend’s match, has been included in the squad and will be hoping to appear in his first Hull derby.

In the derby, form goes out of the window as both teams will be attacking the game hard and it promises to be a must-see event.
