Myler keen to get back on the pitch

Following Leeds Rhinos’ postponement last week of their home fixture against Catalans Dragons, off season recruit Richie Myler is eager for Thursday night’s match against Hull FC at Headingley.

Coming off two losses against Melbourne Storm and Widnes Vikings, Catalans would have been arguably the team everyone wanted to play in order to return to winning ways. However, thanks to the Beast from the East, the 2017 Super League winners must do that instead against the visiting Airlie Birds. Myler himself is looking forward to the challenge, saying that “We’re preparing for Hull now, though, who are a very talented side with quality throughout the line-up.” Furthermore, with it being the first game at the new look Headingley – with construction still taking place on the North and South stands – the former Catalans Dragon is keen to end Thursday night with the two points. Speaking of the building site the Rhinos’ home temporarily is, he explained that “We trained there (Sunday) and it was a bit weird with the stadium still being built,” adding that “I didn’t realise just how big the South Stand is going to be. It’s absolutely massive.”

Hull FC will head to Headingley on Thursday following a 21-12 victory last weekend over Warrington and, following four games, the consecutive Challenge Cup winners sit on four points from two wins and will be aiming to win against a team who have a superb record against them on their own patch; Hull FC’s last win at Headingley came in 2007 and coach Lee Radford will be hoping that his fierce team can be the first Black and Whites squad to conquer the Rhinos for over 10 years. He will, of course, have to do that without Liam Watts who, after his headbutt on Dom Crosby last week, was hit yesterday with a three match penalty notice. That means he either accepts the three match ban or appeals and, if that is the case, he will face a disciplinary hearing.
