York City Knights have this morning announced the signing of their former prop forward Colton Roche on a one month loan deal from Super League side Huddersfield Giants.
The player is no stranger to fans of the Knights having made 25 appearances for the club in 2014/15 before moving on to Championship team Featherstone Rovers. York head coach, the highly rated James Ford, explained that “Colton is a powerful and direct runner who will bring some more intent to our defensive contact. I really enjoyed working with him previously and was impressed by his leadership” and the fact he has returned to the club from having recently signed for Super League team Huddersfield indicates a huge coup for the League 1 outfit.
Many people have commented in the past year or so that York, as a club, has changed hugely in recent times and Roche himself suggested as much, saying that “it’s great for myself to get some quality playing time with a quality team, I know the club well and it is an improved environment since the last time I played for the club.”
Roche will be hoping to make his second Knights debut in Sunday’s match away at Coventry Bears as York look to build on a promising start to the season where they performed admirably and came agonisingly close to beating Bradford on opening day before a comprehensive victory coupled with a highly professional display against Cumbrian amateurs Askam seeing the club safely into the 4th round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup. The draw has given the club a home tie against Swinton Lions at Bootham Crescent on Sunday 18th March.
