After a sterling 2017 campaign, Castleford Tigers are keen to sign up some of their key players to long term contracts to show both their gratitude for their efforts and to seek to build upon a very strong core in the hope of future success. Indeed, after failing to win the Grand Final despite dominating the competition throughout the regular season, it is clear what the Tigers must do to improve on their efforts last season.
One of the key parts of their success was undoubtedly the brilliant form of hooker Paul McShane. Many would view him as unlucky to have missed out on both a 2017 Dream Team place – missing out to Leeds’ Matt Parcell – and a RLWC place but his contribution to his team is not in doubt. Alongside a dominant and dynamic pack, the former Leeds, Hull and Wakefield hooker set the platform for the backs, led by Man of Steel Luke Gale, to punish teams. As a result, the 28 year old is set to sign a new five year deal with the 2017 League Leaders and will be hoping for both domestic and international recognition for his efforts.
With increasing depth signed by 2017 Coach of the Year Daryl Powell, the Tigers – who were remarkably consistent last season – will be hoping to compete for silverware on all fronts this season and McShane will be a pivotal part of that.
