A new Centurion?

Rumours are abounding that another notable signing is set to arrive in Lancashire to don the shirt of recently relegated Leigh Centurions in the shape of Papua New Guinean hooker Kurt Baptiste, a man previously linked with Super League team Warrington Wolves.

Indeed, had it not been for an eleventh hour fall through of the aforementioned deal, the opportunity for Leigh to add the RLWC star to their squad for their 2018 campaign wouldn’t have arisen. However, with his NRL team Canberra Raiders keen to shift Baptiste’s wage off their wage bill due to their desire to bring in another star hooker to replace recently injured Josh Hodgson, it is seems imminent that the 26 year old will arrive in the UK.

Following the arrival of the likes of Drew Hutchinson and Peter Mata’utia – both of whom are, like Baptiste, high profile signings for the club – it is fair to say that Leigh are setting up for a campaign where they want to return back to Super League at the first time of asking. The arrival of Baptiste may well be a big part of that and it is vital that the Centurions bring in a top quality hooker in a bid to fill the void left by local boy Micky Higham following relegation.

Is Baptiste the man who will guide Leigh back to Super League?
