Super League

Ones to watch: Garry Lo

Any player with a try scoring record of 50 in 46 is worthy of attention, whatever the level, and that is exactly what Castleford Tigers’ new signing Garry Lo achieved in his two seasons with second tier side Sheffield Eagles.

His exceptional form had many Super League teams interested but Wheldon Road is his destination and, while he has officially rejoined Sheffield Eagles on loan for next season, that means he is eligible for both teams and I would expect him to firmly be in the first team picture for 2017’s League Leaders’ Shield winners. Daryl Powell plucked Grand Final winger Greg Minikin from lower league York City Knights for the 2016 campaign and last season saw him become a regular name in the Tigers’ starting thirteen and it would be a brave man who doubted Powell’s ability to develop players.

Aged only 23, Lo is currently Down Under with his Papua New Guinea compatriots participating in the World Cup and he may well be one of the players who catches the eye this tournament and, come the culmination of it, Castleford and Powell may well be licking their lips at the prospect of the fast finishing winger lining up for the Tigers next season.

By Joe

A huge rugby league fan, Joe is from York and has followed both the Knights and Leeds Rhinos. The down to earth nature of the sport and it's players diverted his attention away from football and, now, is pursuing a writing career in the greatest sport in the world.

Get 'em Onside is that vessel. Since starting in October 2017, the site has accrued in excess of 400,000 views, nearing a million impressions and almost a thousand followers on the facebook, twitter and instagram platforms. Not bad for something that was only started to kill a bit of time!
